Mel Gibson Is an Anti-Semite and a Sexist
Well, Mel Gibson confirmed what many of us have known for some time - that he thinks negatively of the Jewish people as a whole. I never watched the Passion of the Christ, and at this point, even though he's kind of cute (and I have an ex who looks a lot like him who is ironically half Jewish), I'm not going to watch any more of his movies.
Yeah, he apologized for saying things that he didn't mean, but don't people tend to say things that they really DO mean deep down when they're drunk? Does he not see women as objects? Does he not sees Jews as a collective negative influence in the world responsible for the death of Jesus and wars and that the cop pulled him over? Link

Karma--I wasn't too surprised to hear what he said. He was trying to peddle this anti-Semitic line in his film--which I refused to see, too. It's a sad combination of ignorance and influence (of a crass kind)--and the saddest thing is that the whole thing will blow over because of who he is. I've read that his father is a rabidly conservative Catholic, so I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Just a simple, hateful mind.
The only thing i can say is he finally got it off his mind, after years of carrying it around, Now everyone knows the real Mel. As far as the movie goes, i seen it. It was horrible, much more graphic then a normal person would ever fathem. It deffiantly adds truth to him being semitic and an all out bigot. No more wondering, he said it loud and clear!! I believe that he will pay for this, i know i will never watch another of his films, if we all do that he will start hurting in his wallet.
Peg
Well, and hopefully we'll stop see less anti-semetic and sexist movies! But, yes Peg Lee, at least he finally got it off his chest.
Yes, it's too bad that "famous" people can get away with almost anything. I didn't watch "Passion" either though I know quite a few who did. Some afterwards said that they found the violence a little bit too much.
Of course, the Catholic Church pretty well condoned Hitler's actions because they too said that the Jews killed Christ. It was of course the Romans who acquiesced to his death and carried out the execution. Otherwise, though, as a Protestant believer, I have a completely different view of it. We *all* were culpable in his death but that is probably not a very popular view either.
I don't really follow the news very much and usually stay away completely from star gossip rags so that I hadn't heard the latest on this. News is usually too depressing for me.
Karma, I'm so sorry about your mom and grandma. I know how terrible Alzheimer's is because I also lost my mother almost 3 years ago to it. Well, that is when she died but essentially she was gone already years before that. I can truly empathise with you.
Because of illness, I've had to take a certain amount of verbal and psychological abuse as well. But I'm sure that it's nothing like yours. But knowing how much even that has had an impact on me, I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling. For me, my belief in a caring God and loving Christ has kept me sane but depending on your background, some people have to try other ways. I just know that I'm in God's hands and that I'll never be alone.
I hope your quest will lead you to a fulfilling end. Since I'm not impartial, I guess I hope it will be the same solution that I found.
And yes, Mel will be punished for his sins. If his father is like that you must of course realize that Mel constantly heard this while he was growing up. No matter what you may learn later in life, it is never easy to leave the path that you first walk--especially since he still has that contact to his family.
How sad in both cases of Mel and Tom Cruise. Unfortunately, my one uncle and a cousin are heavily involved in Scientology and we have seen what havoc it has wreaked in their lives and in that of one of my uncle's other daughter's--who managed to escape it. It definitely has not been pretty. It's really too bad that so-called "celebrities" can influence ordinary people so strongly.
I'm sorry but I don't have a blogger account but I started off as "other" using my e-mail and now I can't get an account.
Wow, Ruby. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I'm sorry about the issues with logging in to blogger.
Even though there have been issues with the Catholic Church, there have also been many gains, especially when Pope John Paul was around. My great uncle married a Catholic woman who saved his life during the Holocaust and did much to help other Jews. So, I find the Gibson is Catholic excuse pretty problematic, although clearly his "The Holocaust is fiction" Dad had some influence.
As a Jew, my comfort is knowing that I'm doing what I can for my mother, that I'm there for her in a way that I hope that someone will be for me, tfu tfu god forbid, if I'm ever in a similar situation. As a pseudo Buddhist, I'm comforted by taking all of this as an opportunity to learn how to, despite the intense suffering, to enjoy the moments that I have with my mom.
People are saying that Gibson isn't anti-Semitic because he has Jewish friends (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/04/mel.gibson.ap/index.html). Um, hello, do we not realize that having a gay friend doesn't make me not homophobic; having a Black friend doesn't make not a racist; and yes, having a Jewish friend does not mean that you're not anti-Semite.
